Something to Ponder

Changes of season and autumn leaves bring out the colors of nature and fields of cornstalks and pumpkin patches.  How we look forward to visiting the outdoors as the weather cools and harvest time is near.  Do you remember going to the open farm fields and be in awk as the shape of each pumpkin is so unique. https://jessetam.wordpress.com/   Autumn is the season of change ....

Here are some quotes to ponder..

“There's no such thing as getting lost in a pumpkin patch.”

“Every pumpkin deserves to shine.” — Marion Meister

“The pumpkin is the older brother of the apple.” ― Corina Abdulahm Negura

“We’re not pumpkins. We’re stunning autumn gourds.” — Penny Reid, Beard Science

Mount Rainer a Majestic View

White snow capped view of  Mount Rainer and Lake Washington from Seattle crossing the lake.  Jesse Tam, it's a shore l.5 hour drive from Seattle and great day trip or extend a longer stay and enjoy the park's programs. The mountain is a favorite place to explore and hike during most of the year with summer being the most crowded time of year.  Early spring and fall are the best times for those who prefer fewer crowds to enjoy the trails and views around visitor center at Paradise.    https://jesse-tam.blogspot.com/

Focus is the Key

Here's a good thought for today. Hard work is never easy, but things can get done with one small step at a time.  Keep the pace and focus with an open mind.

The key to success is to focus on goals, not obstacles.  It may seems like a long road to travel, but reaching your destination and goal will be worth the effort.  Regardless of the pace,, continue to move forward and don't turn back. https://jessetam.wordpress.com/

Here''s to a Positve Week

Here's to a new week, new start and postive things ahead. Jesse Tam the greater Seattle region has many parks and trails for hiking or bike rides along the Gilman Trial, Seattle's Waterfront, Discovery Park or head across to the east side. There are many easy to difficult hiking spots within an hour drive from the hustle and bustle work schedules.  Make sure you take time out for yourself and get some fresh air outdoors.  Brisk breaks and walks with quiet time do great wonders for the soul.

There are many tasks which have priortiy daily, but always allow yourself some quiet time and reflect on the day.  Stay grounded in your daily life.

Nature's Laughter

The waterfall is nature's laughter.  There is no better place to listen to the raging sound of Snoqualmie Falls.  Jesse Tam, only a short drive from Seattle is a favorite place to bring visitors to experience the beauty of nature's waterfall. During heavy rainfall, you'll be able to feel the mists as you walk along the pather and walkway surrounding the falls. Make an afternoon outing with a packed lunch and hike down to the lower falls along the trail and walk along the boardwalk to river below.  It's a trip that you can make year round and with all age groups.

Planning a trip on weekdays will be less crowded and fewer visitors.  Summer is always a busy time as we try to get out and enjoy the great weather. Parking is limited and more difficult during the weekends, plan your visit and walk further to reach the waterfall.  It's a great drive to get out of the city and escape to the mountains and outdoors.  Stay in touch https://jesse-tam.blogspot.com/  Thanks for reading.

Celebrate the Forest

We are excited to celebrate the International Day of Forests that the UN declared March 21st for the future of our planet and forests. Jesse Tam, Seattle has many trails and paraks for a simple walk outdoors and it can calm and invigorate our senses after a day of work. It is a day to create awareness of across the world about the importance of the forest and our greatest natural treasures.  What are some ideas and projects for your community to help preserve our natural resources?  Take the time to form a group or join others in various way to celebrate this year.

Here are some ways to participate:

Plant a tree or start a garden even if you live in the city with community gardens. Buy a little plant for your home counts.  Go on a hike in the woods or a state park and enjoy the blue skies and spring air.  Make a scrapbook or activity with the entire family and learn about different types of trees and their importance. Take a walk around the park or your local neighboor and see how many trees you can identify.

Our national parks and trails are great places to explore and get started to a healthier lifestyle and protecting our natural resources.  Keep treking with simple daily and increase the miles or steps, but remember to stretch.

Keep Your Balance, Keep Moving

Winter holiday lights, celebrations and visits with Santa is very different this season as we must continue with social distances to stay safe and healthly.  Jesse Tam, it's without the traditional visits to stroll outdoors to delight in bright colorful displays at the Botantical Garden or seeing Clam Lights and having a nice hot chocolate to warm up the soul.  How will you be make changes this year as we must limit our gatherings and no travels by car or planes for many families.  Some of us will be using more technology to stay connected with Zoom, Facetime and various social media.

We've seen the holiday outdoor lights, decoration and displays completed to cheer our spirits for an early winter season.  The snow is upon some of our cities, so bundle up and take a brisk walk outdoors and get some fresh air and sunlight.  Just take things in stride and adapt to our daily changes with a positive outlook. Things may feel gloomy; but, will hopefully become brighter in the near future.

There are times when you feel like giving in and just quit trying, but continue to plug ahead and you'll make it for sure.  "Life is like riding a bicycle.  To keep your balance, you must keep moving."  Albert Einstein.  Stay connected, keep striving.  Thanks for reading,  Jesse https://jesse-tam.blogspot.com/

Today Is Your Day

How have you been spending you days recently?  Jesse Tam, many of us are trying to get the most outdoors while the short warm weather and sunny days are here.  The weather in the pacific northwest is great for farmer's markets, bike riding along the trails, hikes to the nearby national parks and local trails within a short drive.  So let's take advantage of the season before the cloudy skies appear and rain returns.

Get moving and do something close to your neighbor or local park and take a stroll and explore your surroundings. It's a time to enjoy the nice weather or find a hobby.

Today is Your day!  Your mountain is waiting.  so...

Get on your way!

Raging Sounds of the Falls

Early spring after a stormy rainfall, Snoqualmie Falls showing the roaring sounds over a misty spray as you stroll along the viewing deck and walkways.  Jesse Tam, always different when you visit the falls and refreshing to see the surround mountains, waterfall, trails to explore and relax for a short drive from the busy city.

The view changes even when you seen the falls millions of times...with beautiful sights of rainbow, sounds of raging water, droplets of sprays after a heavy winter storm or calmer days during the dry month.  A splendid time to hike to the lower falls with a nice groomed trail about 1 to 1.5 miles.  Wear comfortable shoes, bring a small backpack and learn about the forest growth, trees and water hydro.

Season of Change

Winter solistics is almost upon us when the days start to get shorter and the cold dark nights are longer.  Oh, the north wind strikes out and we lose sight of this sense of wonder.  The fallen snow brings slippery roads for travelers and walking on the sidewalks. It's the beauty of winter when we shift our perspective to see and enjoy the beauty of nature and winter again.

It's this season that some of us love as gather around the fire and enjoy the music and spirt of the holidays.
  •  Every winter has its spring
  • Spend time outdoors and apprecite the beauty of snowflakes
  • When it snows, make snow angels
  • Winter is the time for family around the fire and home
  • There's something wonder when walk ing on snow

Keep the spirits alive and make a difference each day.  https://jesse-tam.blogspot.com/  It's that time of giving during the cold wintery months when those in need are most appreciated.

Winter Zests

Cold temperatures, snow day, winter zest, Jesse Tam. The winter months create unexpected  temperatures to dip below freezing and snow forecast snarled Seattle, northwest traffic. Bellevue's eastside higher elevations received more snow. Start early and check the treads on those tires so it will be safe on the road during rainy and snowy weather.  The colder night temperature makes the windshield scraping important to get frost off the windows so there is better vision when we drive off to work, school, shopping or meetings.

Make a list and start gathering some items to leave in your truck in case of stormy weather or traffic delays.  Changes in weather can occur quickly with fog, snow, less daylight and lower temperatures making conditions hazardous.

Here are a few handy items to carry:
  • Flashlight with extra batteries
  • Windshield scraper
  • Comfortable boots or walking shoes
  • Extra coat or blanket, hat, gloves, scarf
  • Small portable shovel
  • Snacks and/or water
  • Emergency kit
  • Safety flare
  • Booster cable
  • Fire extinguisher
Snow has blanket the foothills in many regions and the sports enthusiasts welcome the snow for snowboarding, skiing and winter fun in the mountains.  Looks a good year to spend time in the mountains and purchase a season pass for the lifts...have fun on the slopes, stay safe. Northwest Region and Market Boom

Market Boom and cranes above, Jesse Tam. The Northwest region and Seattle continues to see the largest increases in the residential real estate, make it the nation's fastest growing city for home prices. Jesse Tam, market trend and housing trends continues to grow.  Portland home prices are the second fastest growing in the country with both cities outpaced the national home value increases in gain.  Low inventory and high demand are responsible for home price hikes in the area.

The population boom is fueled by job growth in technology and other industries in Seattle's Emerald City.  Mortgage rates are at about 4 percent and high paying tech jobs and salary make Seattle housing market competitive.

10 Mistakes People Make at the Airport

It's time to start planning for spring break, graduation and busy summer vacations. I came across this blog on tips and ways to make flying less stressful with the new regulations and longer lines at the airports. Making a list and being organized will make a difference when the big day arrives and you are at the airport. Happy travels from Seattle/Bellevue Jesse

"10 Ways People Mess up at the Airport/10 Mistakes people make at the airport"

The following are 10 mistakes people make at the airport time  and time again that they needn’t make. Will you be among them? Or, will you read through these 10 suggestions and avoid them.
1)  Not giving yourself enough time
2)  Not being TSA ready – Be prepared to go through security. Having too great a quantity of liquids, shoes need to be easy to get on and off, place wallet, lose change, etc. in your carry-on bag.
3)  Best tip! Get TSA pre-Check!  PreCheck makes your life so much easier! It’s faster.  It has much shorter lines than the regular lines (typically). You aren’t required to remove your shoes, laptop and liquids. This makes the lines move much quicker. This means that you reduce the likelihood of leaving something behind as you scramble to get yourself back together again.  You will need to fill out their application. There is also an $85 non-refundable fee. Last step is to schedule an appointment to take there in person interview. This can be done at one of the more than 380 enrollment centers. Kind of a drag, I know. But, you’ll thank yourself  for the next five years, The Pre-Check really is worth it’s price in saved time and aggravation.
4)  Second best, download your airline/airport app! Using your carrier’s app is important not just at the airport, but before you get there, too. Most carriers have apps you can download on your smartphone that will alert you if your flight is delayed or canceled, even before you leave for the airport. Once there, the information on the app is often more up-to-date than the arrival/departure screens in the terminal. More and more airports have developed apps that help travelers navigate the terminals with maps, lists of services, etc. One particularly useful app that we like is  FlightSpeak, which covers many many airports and, gives you so much information about what’s going on there! Find it download it, Check it out.
5)  Going hand in glove with airline apps is checking in online ahead of time. Have your ticket sent directly to your phone (via text or email link), and if you don’t have any luggage to check, you can skip the counter and head straight to the security line. Another benefit is being able to choose your seat. This can all be done 24 hours before your flight.
6)  Not paying attention to gates – They change! I mentioned this earlier in the app section. If you don’t have a smartphone, pay attention to the reader boards.
7)  Sending personal information over the airport Wi-Fi. Public Wi-Fi networks aren’t secure, so whatever you do, don’t type in personal information — passwords, IDs, etc. — or you could return from your trip only to find your Facebook has been hacked and your bank account drained.
8)  Play nice. Don’t be rude. it almost never pays to be angry, indignant or whiny, Patience and a smile go a long way when it comes to increasingly harried gate and flight attendants
9)  Planning a too-tight connection. This is a hard one to judge. We have had some really close calls. Unless you are fortunate enough to have your connections at gates right next to each other, give yourself plenty of time. Even at smaller airports we try to give ourselves at least 90 minutes just to be safe. I’d much rather have to hang around for a bit than miss the flight and deal with that hassle.
10)  Pack snacks. If you’re stuck in a long security line and run out of time to buy food in the departure lounge, or if your plane doesn’t sell anything you actually want to eat, you’re covered.

Thinking About A Visit to Seattle?

Thinking about visiting Seattle, Jesse Tam.  The long lists of places to discover is west coast city of Seattle with downtown skylines filled with tall buildings, cranes and the Space Needle.  Spring is the beginning of cruise ships in our region with several ports ready for the tourists to arrive as they begin the week long journey to Alaska.  The cruise season begins around early April to October creating additional passengers arriving and departing at Seattle Tacoma International Airport.

Spend the weekend with a pre or post day to explore the waterfront, Pike Place market, International District or tour Boeing.  There are things for the whole family with parks, ride the Big Wheel on the waterfront, walk or bike along  Alki Beach.  There are more activities for those interested in the arts and musical performances.

The light rail link from the airport will take you to downtown Seattle and a quick ride to the University district and University of Washington.  Rent a canoe at the boathouse for a few hours when the weather permits and see Lake Washington.   Jesse   spend time to explore the outdoors.

Fridge Temperatures and Winter Blast

Winter temperatures and flight plans from Bellevue or Seattle, Jesse Tam. Driving or flying this time of year from Seattle northwest to east coast? Check with the airlines for delays and de icing due to weather or fog.

The cold winter days and snow are upon us as we are hit with another arctic cold across the Northeastern United States.  The Midwest remains frigid through the work week, northeastern states will stay cold for the next few days.

The national weather service issued a wind chill advisory for all of North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and parts of Montana, Wyoming and the plain states.  Watch for temperatures to hit below zero in some areas.

Stay safe with carrying warm clothing, food, blankets and traction devices for tires. Remember to allow extra time for traveling and watch road conditions as they change.

Awesome View Perseid Meteor

The perfect evening to view the best meteor shower in the Pacific Northwest will be visible around August 11 - 12. Jesse Tam, the weather is going to cooperate for the Perseid Meteor shower as each year's show is different. This year's show is to be the best in several years. What's the best time and place for viewing tonight?  The skies will be clear with views close to midnight Thursday night/Friday into pre-dawn.

If you can spend the time and stay awake, the hours from 2-3 am will be worth the wait and you'll be amazed.  The meteors are visible anywhere in the sky, but will radiate from the Perseid constellation in the northeast

Find you spot anywhere away from city lights - areas around the greater Seattle area that are good for stargazing are Alki Beach, Green Lake, Discovery Park, the mountains are also popular spots. The bright streaks and burst will appear in urban areas and lowlands as well.

  • Meteors move at 130,000 mph, reaching temperature over 3,000 degrees F as tiny particles burn up by colliding with molecules
  • Meteors burn up about 50 miles above Earth's surface and do not pose any threat to us on the the ground
  • It takes a second for them to burn up

A Perseid Meteor enters the Earth’s atmosphere — burning up for all to see on top of Table Mountain near Ellensburg in 2010. (Steve Ringman/The Seattle Times)Don't miss the amazing event, the clear nights and warmer weather will make it a must view for the stargazers. Suggested places Tiger Mountain, Rattlesnake Lake, Sunrise Point, Artist Point, Magnuson Park, Alki Beach
